Film Making, Getting Started

Filmmaking, Where To Start

It is a question that haunts all of us. Say that you have the needed equipment. Say that you have a script that you are happy with. Say that you are one of the few indie film makers on earth who has enough money set aside to actually mount a production.

What then?

I believe that the absolute hardest part of film making is the getting started part. Once you have done your first lighting set up and gotten down a minute or two of actual footage you are 90 percent of the way to finishing the project.

As with most things in life it is the beginning that is the hardest part. Exercise is easy once you get through that first painful and awkward week. Asking that girl or guy out is not that difficult once you get pass hello.
Film making is not different.

You love to think about it.

You love to talk about it.

You love to go through the process of writing the script and picking out equipment, but the hardest part is avoided. You have been avoiding it for months if not years.

Why?

There are no do overs in life. This is all the life you get. This is all the time you will ever have so let’s get to work on making this movie. You can do it. Sure you are going to make a ton of mistakes, but the learning from
those mistakes is half the fun. I know that normally I do teaching post, but I felt like some of you needed a pep talk post. Maybe I needed it, who knows.

Okay here is a pair of short films shot with an iPhone. I thought that we should return to the theme of this website once in a while.

Thank you for checking in and remember to add us to your google plus and to tell a friend about the site.
