The Next Step in Smart Phone Filmmaking

All things are difficult at first. We learn to crawl before we learn to walk. We make little films. We do little things with this technology before we will reach the level of being able to produce feature length work that will stand side by side with the work of professional film makers with out an audience being able to tell which was shot using standard technology and which were recorded using a smart phone or a small camcorder.

All the time now there are new lenses and apps being made available to add in this process. Looking back over the last two years is like watching the advancement in film from the silent films of the early 1920’s to the golden age of film in the mid to late 1930’s. During that time experimentation lead to the development of technique and routines that would later produce the master film makers that would change the world as we know it. This is happening again. This time with small digital devices all over the world. Perhaps you are one of these film makers. Do not tell yourself that you can not possibly do this. Whether you are too young or believe that you are too old to do this. Understand this that there is no age limit. No restrictions whatsoever except that you master your craft and learn to produce a quality film.

Learning to be a film maker is mostly trial and error and the best way to learn is to learn by doing it. Go out and make your iphone movie. Shoot one a week if you can. It does not have to be long. Two or three minutes will be good enough to start with.
